Special Programs

Abortion has come before the U.S. Supreme Court repeatedly since its 1973 Roe decision. In the 1989 Webster case, the Court restored greater latitude to the state and federal legislatures in restricting abortion. This watershed case presented new opportunities for restrictions on abortion at the state level. Without a massive grassroots effort, the pro-life movement faced the threat of losing the hard-won gains achieved since 1973.

In 1990, NCHLA launched Project Life, a letter-writing program for individual dioceses. Its purpose was to revitalize grassroots legislative activity and send a strong pro-life message to Congress.
